We had a council meeting today, which morphed into a guild meeting.
Minimum standards. We basically agreed that the minimums (on our Raiding page) were the minimums for anyone seeking to be a core raider for Immortal Ascension. These are also to be the minimums for staying a core raider. They will be enforced. It was clearly observable, by many at our meeting, that our newest raider, Equality, had been working very hard to meet those minimum standards. We noted that the hard work on his class had certainly paid off - with a significant boost to his DPS and raid awareness. Great job, Equality!
Misunderstandings. We noted that it is easy to be lulled into accepting second-best, especially when we are genuinely seeking to let real-life take the priority. We also agreed that open communication is critical in order to not let misunderstandings loom larger than reality. We accept that misunderstandings happen, that peeps get tired and cranky, that life sucks ... however, we do not accept letting those things stay in the way of our team getting on with having success, rewards and fun. We, as always, accept peeps back into the fold, if they leave, on the proviso that they (and we) seek to learn from our mistakes, dust ourselves off, apologise if needs be and just get back into it. We realise that this guild may not be everyone's' ideal - but we do work at striking the balance between being realistic and being focused as a team.
Real-life wins out. We accept that we have core members of our team who are joining us from New Zealand, the east coat and the west coast of Australia, which will mean we need to be tolerant of time-zones, work-life, school-life and families.
The key is "communication".
Being prepared. However, this also means that we need to be committed to not wasting each others' time, through being prepared, ready, aware of mechanics, aware of class, aware of what loot we need and what loot we don't need.
Minimal alt-swapping. We also discussed that we actually prefer for peeps to use one toon and not to swap in an out. We noted that this gets messy, when we gear up an alt at the expense of a core raider. So [I think] we decided that we would PUG missing classes (from our raiders' exhaustive Btag friend lists). We prefer if peeps play the toon they love and that for the off-spec to be the alternative at times. We did note, that we usually ask Kalorie to "go get Slip'" and Emrald to "go get Juules", but decided that they were the exceptions. We acknowledge that Ridgerock is Lorak's preferred toon - we very much welcomed Ridge's DK contribution into our Heroic Xhul win today.
Missing 4-set bouses. We also acknowledge that there are some raiders who still need tier-set bonuses - so we will be running lower-level heroic HFC - just to get those tier items. When these are in the calendar, they will be set after consultation with those who need the gear - so if that it YOU - please contribute to when you are available.
This is probably not the best post, I have sought to note a lengthy and complex guild discussion and decisions. However, it will have to do ... please feel free to add your thoughts in response.
