We had a disaster happen this week ... after we killed Archimonde on normal ... something happened ... we all moped off, without a single heroic boss kill.
After sulking a bit, a few council members got together to chat about our "problem". People are leaving IA, finding new raiding guilds and new homes. So we chatted in guild for a bit and got together on ventrilo with some long-time members to have a bit of a re-think about this "situation".
We are serious about "fixing" our raiding "problem". To do so, we believe we need to set a core team, which is always a sticking point. We have set entrance requirements, and across the summer we've drifted away from that - just to get the necessary mass to raid.
From a historical view point, we have tried setting entrance levels and this seems to get stuck in the throat a bit. No-one wants to be the "hard-edge" that judges if you make the benchmark.
The view from guild conversations is to either set strict conditions to enter or to have some strict conditions on staying with the core team. I am leaning towards the strict conditions on staying with the core team. Whilst this is a decision our guild needs to make, it is not one we seem to stick to.
So for the moment, let's take stock of where we're at! Over the last year, we did our usual jumps and stumps approach to raiding. But many or our experienced players are still feeling like they are just dragging a host of "wanna-bes"
Seriously folks! All last year, we wailed about the LOOT, the LAZY and the LOOONG road.
Ridge left the raid on Friday, without a word, posting on Facebook that he's "done with raiding ... over it". Last exp, it was heals we needed and Ridge stopped his DK and leveled and geared up his druid healer, Loraks. Yet, throughout it all, he's been really willing to be flexible and did his best. He prefers DPS, and we're not seeing the lower-levels of HFC, where his loot for token DPS gear resides. We'll welcome you back ... next expac. No grudges.
Ceacea faithfully staying up to 10pm (her time) to start raiding virtually every week. The loooong break over Christmas saw her find a NZ-based raiding guild, where she's raiding in a time that can see her think straight and she's now 5/13 Mythic! She's wanting to stay - but our raiding slump is no real incentive. That same NZ guild also makes use of Juules and Kalorie. Juules let me, as GM, know that she was raiding elsewhere and learning a lot!
So, there's more to these stories and I know ... there are probably more stories out there.
So what do we do? We've got nine months until the new expansion and we get stalled at 4% on Heroic Mannoroth! What!
The people on the raid list on our raiding page are THE core team
2 Tanks: Frozenpain (Blood Death Knight), Vindarius (Guardian Druid),
4 Heals: Rimmer (Restoration Druid), Nessaja (Holy Paladin), Eldros (Holy Paladin) & Faythe (Holy Priest)
5 Melee: Ceacea (Frost Death Knight), Emrald (Feral Druid), Parsnip, (Assassination Rogue), Vaestian (Combat Rogue), Nardath (Assassination Rogue) (did someone put out an a alert about rogues or something????)
7 Ranged: Chutnie (Fire Mage), Kalorie (Shadow Priest), Ñáth (Destruction Warlock), Ranker (Affliction Warlock), Silentkillër (Marksman Hunter), Thaduke (Marksman Hunter), Digity (Arcane Mage)
Raiders On leave (who will need to meet minimums to return - for some, clearly, that will not be an issue):
Aliysza (Elemental Shaman), Theadmiral (Destruction Warlock)/Delthrus (Subtlety Rogue)/Vashisti (Enhancement Shaman), Ridgerock (Frost Death Knight)/Loraks (Resotration Druid), Wrighty (Fury Warrior)/Wrought (Beast Mastery Hunter)
Newcomers (who will need to meet earlier set minimums to stay):
Stmariannie (Combat Rogue), Ðh (Marksmanship Hunter), Equality (Retribution Paladin), Gazaa (Restoration Shaman) - OK, I may have missed some - you get the point though ... right?
Newcomers, if you want to be counted on the core team you need to meet the following:
- The pre-advertised minimums on our raid page for the level of our progression boss Heroic Mannoroth.
- Be a regular raider who attend faithfully, who is
- Prepared to work at your class,
- Improve your understanding of the raid's mechanics for your class, and
- Do what it takes in order to meet Mythic requirements.
So, IT IS THE BOSS SPEAKING ...
The strict entrance to the CORE TEAM is the individual's capacity to maintain a minimum performance through:
1. Abiding by the existing RAID RULES, if this is an issue to monitor informally - I will advocate that we use a DKP system to keep a track of it (a first for IA - but not for our players who raid or have raided elsewhere).
2. NOT SWAPPING out to another character or class, but to hone your chosen character's class play and to contribute consistently and constantly to the whole raid-group's overall performance. You will be geared and rewarded for remaining steadfast.
2. Maintaining pace with your raid awareness and your character's DPS (or HPS or TPS) to ensure that IA sees the timely death of Heroic Archimonde and that will place that heroic boss on farm.
There endth my rant.
